A little history
Port Wentworth grew around the Savannah Sugar Refinery, which opened in 1917 and operated for nearly a century. The city stayed small until the 2000s, when port expansion and new arterial roads opened the Rice Hope corridor to large-scale subdivision development.
The market today
It is now among the fastest-growing municipalities in Georgia by percentage, with production builders active across several thousand lots. Pricing is below comparable Pooler product for similar square footage, and the trade-off is a longer drive to downtown.
What to know before you buy
- Large new-construction supply below Pooler pricing
- Immediate I-95 access; heavy port truck traffic nearby
- Confirm impact fees and community development district charges
