A little history
Thunderbolt was founded as a fort site in 1733 and incorporated as its own town in 1856. It built its identity on the water — a shrimping fleet, boatyards, and a casino resort at the end of the streetcar line in the early 1900s. It remains an independent municipality with its own police department and a working commercial waterfront.
The market today
Housing is a mix of small cottages, mid-century ranches, and a handful of river-front homes and condos with dock access. Prices are among the lowest per waterfront foot in Chatham County, and the town's separate millage rate is worth checking against city of Savannah rates.
